The Verse At The Centre Of The Bible

Today's message was taken from the Psalms of David 118:8 NKJV 'IT IS BETTER TO TRUST IN THE LORD THAN TO PUT CONFIDENCE IN MAN.'

Psalm 117 is the shortest chapter of the Bible. Psalm 119 is the longest. Psalm 118 is at the center of the Bible. There are 594 chapters in the Bible before Psalm 118 and 594 chapters after, totalling 1,188 chapters. This number can be split 118-8, or Psalm 118:8. Now we know that the chapter divisions of the Bible are not part of the original Scripture, but isnt it interesting how this little word-exercise worked out? Or was God in the centre of it all? And if He was, shouldn't the central verse of the bible contain its central theme? It does: 'It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.' In Psalm 118 the Psalmist recalls seven reasons why God is worthy to be trusted:

'I called upon the Lord in distress: the lord answered me, amd set me in a large place'

'The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?'

(v6)

'The Lord taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall i see my desire uon them that hate me'

(v7)

'I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord'

(v17)

'The Lord hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death'

(v18)

'This is the day the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it'

(v24)

'Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever'
